I don't believe there are too many Americans out there who haven't heard the name Man O War. An American horse racing legend, Man O War was foaled in Lexington and rose to fame in the 1920's with his 28 foot stride and indomitable spirit. He was known also for his fiery attitude....ask any of the exercie riders he dumped regularly.

Man O War

Today marks the 100th anniversary of his birth and Kentucky is celebrating! The Kentucky Horse Park will continue this celebration throughout its season. Man O War, also known as "Big Red" is the only non-human to be listed as one of the 50 all time great athletes! His bloodline continues coursing through racing history as such great racehorses as Secretariat, John Henry and Cigar can all trace their heritage back to him. Man O War did one thing great....racing!
